Explaining CSCS the Construction Skills Certification Scheme

Explaining the ‘CSCS’  The Construction Skills Certification Scheme

The CSCS skills card is an industry wide scheme to promote safety and improve competency of individuals on construction sites.

The scheme is not compulsory, however major contracting groups insist on all site personnel having the skills card or there is no access to site!  Skills cards are obtained by completing a touch screen test  and in most cases by achieving an NVQ. Cards are issued in different colours to different occupations:-

Green   -  for general Construction Site Operatives

Black    -  for Senior Management

Blue      -  for Craft Operatives

These are just a sample of the cards that can be obtained.

Excellent information on the whole process of achieving a card can be viewed on www.cscs.uk.com  click on ‘how to apply’.

There are also good links on the web site that explain the process, give details of support materials and explain the types of card also how to book a touch screen test (cost  £17.50).

In short the website gives full and concise information.

However, if you would like to speak to someone rather than trawl the internet, advice lines are available by calling 0844 576 8777.

Using the same number you can also run a check if cards are valid.

As a business you need to assess whether it is appropriate  for you to obtain and achieve CSCS cards for your workforce, if this is the case using the contact points above is the easiest way to simplify the process and fast track achievement.
