Training Objectives

This course is designed to introduce the delegate(s) to the concept of safety management systems and provide training in the techniques and tools needed to successfully manage health and safety at work.  The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) accredits the course and all successful candidates receive certification

This course will train the delegate in:

  • Safety management systems
  • Risk assessment and management systems
  • Legal requirements for managers
  • Reactive monitoring and accident investigation
  • Risk control strategies
  • Active monitoring regimes, set up, managing and results assessment
  • Managing specific hazard sources in the workplace.

Course Syllabus

Module 1 -Introducing Managing Safely

Covering your responsibilities as a manager and why it’s important to manage safely.

Module 2 – Assessing Risks

Covers the definition of a risk and the general principles of conducting risk assessments

Module 3 – Controlling Risks

Methods for reducing risk and how to decide which controls to use.

Module 4 – Understanding Your Responsibilities

Your requirements under legislation and how the law works. Also sets out the key parts of a health and safety management system.

Module 5 – Identifying Hazards

The hazards most relevant to the client’s organisation will be used. Identification of hazards and analysis of risks. Practical management strategies for specific hazard types.

Module 6 – Investigating accidents and incidents

Covers how accidents happen and why and how you should investigate incidents.

Module 7 – Measuring performance

How and why you measure health and safety performance. What safety audits involve

Module 8 – Protecting our environment

Covering the impact of industry on the environment. Methods you can use to control pollution and waste. Elements of an environmental management system

 

Test Question paper (60 minutes) followed by delegates Workplace Final Project.
